Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore
Nobel Prize winning poet, writer, painter, thinker, maverick educational reformer and the greatest song writer of all times – Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), lovingly called Kabiguru remains a revered figure in both Bangladesh and India. The open-air school, Shantiniketan, founded by him to promote his unique vision of education continues to flourish to this date. In the history of British India, his may be the single towering personality equaling that of Gandhi. We talk about globalization, world peace, equality and right for all. Rabindranath visualized the same, unified world a century ago. His poems like ‘Amra Sobai Raja’, ‘Hey mor chitto, punnyo tirthe jagora dhire (Gitabitan), Sonar Tari and many verses in Geetanjali speaks of that vision with an universal appeal that can show today’s world the way to live with each other in a harmony unseen so far in the human history. Rabindranath was the only author who elevated the subject of human love to the level of ultimate divinity. He also believed rightly that we all are a part of the eternity and that had been the idea of God for both of them.
